Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Deane Falcone
Deane Falcone joined Crop One Holdings in 2015 and currently serves as Chief Scientific Officer. Prior to joining the Crop One team, Deane was Chief Molecular Science Officer and Founder of Naprogenix, Inc, a biotechnology company that developed a genetic and pharmacological screening platform to access the biochemical diversity of plants. He served as Faculty and Principal Investigator at the University of Massachusetts where his laboratory group studied plant environmental stress tolerance and nutritional metabolite production in plants. Dr. Falcone earned his BA and MA from the University of Texas Austin, PhD from Ohio State University, and completed his postdoctoral studies at Stanford University. Over the course of his career he has conducted research on several areas of plant biology beginning with primary metabolism, including photosynthesis and carbon dioxide fixation, then on to the genetics and biochemistry of plant fatty acid and oil metabolism. From there Deane moved into plant secondary metabolism, the study of phytochemicals unique to plants, and the physiology of plant stress responses. This work is reflected in over 30 scientific articles and patents published throughout his career.
Chief Executive Officer
Sonia Lo joined Crop One Holdings in 2013 and is currently the Chief Executive Officer. Ms. Lo also serves as Founder and Managing Director of Chalsys, LLP an advisory and direct investment firm focusing on business building, restructuring and asset management. As Managing Director at Chalsys, Sonia has invested in over 15 global growth stage companies, raising more than $120 million. Prior to Chalsys, Ms. Lo was the co-founder and CEO of eZoka Group, a UK based internet startup-company that was sold to private investors in 2002. Ms. Lo is also a former Director of Global Content for Google, Inc. She was appointed one of the top Global 100 Technology Pioneers at the World Economic Forum in 2000 and 2001 and was named one of Management Today’s leading 35 businesswomen in the UK under the age of 35. Ms. Lo earned her BA in Political Science from Stanford University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. She holds Professional Chef and Pastry Qualifications from the London and City College and completed certifications in Green Supply Chain Management and Zero Energy Architecture.
Chief Financial Officer & SVP of Strategy
Dave Vosburg joined Crop One Holdings in 2014 and currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Strategy. Prior to joining the Crop One team, Dave co-founded and served as CEO of Zambia's leading HR consulting and outsourcing company. Mr. Vosburg acted as CFO for Zoona, Zambia and Malawi’s largest money transfer company taking it through its first audit with a big-four and managing financial projections for $4M equity injection. He was elected President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Zambia where he worked with Government leaders to increase US – Zambia trade. Mr. Vosburg earned his BA from the University of Notre Dame and his MBA from Yale University.
Director of Plant Research & Farm Management
Lydia Conley joined Crop One Holdings in 2016 on the Plant Science research team and is now the Director of Plant Research Production and Farm Management. Prior to joining the Crop One team, Lydia spent over four years contributing to plant development research as a member of the “Plant Growth and Research Management Team” for one of the world’s largest plant biotechnology companies. Ms. Conley also taught Special Education, General Science, Chemistry and Physical Science in a Title One school for three years. During her tenure as a teacher, she maintained an in classroom greenhouse and oversaw the city’s community garden planning hands-on projects designed to teach students the fundamentals of plant biology. Throughout her academic career, Ms. Conley researched the environmental impacts of runoff water into local beaches and estuaries to determine causes of frequent algal blooms. Ms. Conley earned her BS in Biology from Salve Regina University and completed a graduate teaching program at Rhode Island College.
Director of Software & Analytics
Tom Kerr joined Crop One Holdings in 2014 as the first Harvest Manager and currently serves as the Director of Software and Analytics. Prior to joining the Crop One team, Tom contributed to the Internet Archive’s mass-digitization effort at the Boston Public Library, managing meta-data and photographing books, manuscripts, maps, and special collections, as well as providing technical support for their 20+ scanning centers in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Mr. Kerr then made a transition to farming and learned to grow, maintain and harvest dozens of crops on a local organic farm, including over 40 types of garlic and heirloom tomatoes. As a Developer & Systems Analyst at Crop One, Mr. Kerr built an integrated farm management system, including production dashboards, analytics, and SCADA/IoT infrastructure. Mr. Kerr attended Emerson College.
SVP Advanced Technology
Steve Montoya joined Crop One Holdings in 2015 and currently serves as the Senior Vice President of Advanced Technology. Prior to joining the Crop One team, Steve served as VP of Product Management and Research & Development at HID Laboratories and Topanga Technologies. He has directed and helped launch 3 start-up companies, including StrataCom which was acquired for over $4B by Cisco Systems. Steve then co-founded Nayna Networks Corporation as VP of Engineering and Operations. Mr. Montoya earned his BSEE from the University of California Davis, MSEE from the University of California Berkeley, and MBA from Pepperdine University.
VP of Nutritional Science
Dr. Jenna Bell
Jenna A. Bell joined Crop One Holdings in 2019 as the VP of Nutritional Science. Prior to joining the Crop One team, Dr. Bell led food and nutrition communications as a Senior Vice President at Pollock Communications. During her 13 years with the public relations firm, she worked with large consumer product goods and commodity foods including, Unilever, PepsiCo, Danone North America, Quaker, Tea Council, Cranberry Institute, Bay State Milling, LaCroix and USA Rice Federation. Dr. Bell started her dietetics career in nutrition support at Coram CVS Specialty Infusion Services and Southwest CARE Center, HIV/AIDS clinic in New Mexico. After completing a PhD in health and human performance, she became a medical dietetics professor at The Ohio State University. During her 25 years in nutrition, she co-authored the book Energy to Burn: The Ultimate Food & Nutrition Guide to Fuel your Active Lifestyle (John Wiley & Sons 2009) and Launching Your Dietetics Career (ADA 2011). Dr. Bell served as a delegate for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; she was a policy advocacy leader and executive committee member of the Nutrition Entrepreneurs and chair of the Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Dietetic Practice Group. She is an editorial advisor and contributor of Today’s Dietitian magazine. Dr. Bell received her BS in Nutritional Science from the University of New Hampshire - Durham, MS in Nutrition and PhD in Physical Performance and Development from the University of New Mexico.
Director of Business Development, Technologies
Ron James joined Crop One Holdings in 2019 and is the Director of Business Development for new technologies. Prior to joining the Crop One team, Ron spent over 30 years in the commercial greenhouse industry. Most recently, he developed and managed a consulting firm helping commercial horticulture start-up companies with strategic planning, process analysis and efficiency evaluation, and market development. Mr. James has also served as the Managing
Director in sales, marketing, and product development for PARsource, a commercial horticulture lighting company and Vice President of SPS International. Additionally, he has held management-level positions at McCalif Grower Supplies, Palram Americas, CO-Ex Corporation, and Sustainable Solutions. Mr. James received his BS in Horticulture from California Polytechnic State University.
VP of International Business Development & Strategic Projects
Pitichoke Chulapamornsri, CFA
Pitichoke Chulapamornsri joined Crop One Holdings in 2019 as the Vice President of International Business Development and Strategic Projects. Prior to joining the Crop One team, Mr. Chulapamornsri was a founding team member and the Director of Business Development at Neighborly Securities, a FinTech startup. He won the Deal of the Year most innovative category for the City of Cambridge, MA Minibonds 2017 transaction that he was the lead banker. Pitichoke was also a Senior Analyst at Goldman Sachs in the Private Equity Group, a fund-of-fund with over $35bn in AUM. He was the youngest appointee to the Risk Management and Analytics oversight committee. Mr. Chulapamornsri is a Certified Public Accountant and a CFA Level III Candidate. He earned his BBA in Finance and International Business (cum laude) from University of Washington and Master in Public Policy from Harvard University, where he served as the student body president. Mr. Chulapamornsri is a Certified Public Accountant and a CFA Charterholder.
Director of Sales & Business Development
Randy Frederick joined Crop One Holdings in 2018 as the Director of National Accounts and is currently the Director of Sales and Business Development. Prior to joining the Crop One team, Randy served as Vice President of National Sales for Freight Farms, responsible for account development in the grocery, restaurant and wholesale produce channels. Mr. Frederick also worked as the Vice President of National Account Sales at SteadyServ Technologies, which focused inventory, order management and business intelligence systems to serve the needs of the beer industry. Additionally, Mr. Frederick worked various sales and marketing positions with MillerCoors. Randy earned his BA from the University of Wisconsin Madison.
Jay Sweeney joined Crop One Holdings in 2018 as the Corporate Controller. Prior to joining the Crop One team, Jay has extensive start-up experience with over $500 million investor exits. Most recently he served as the VP of Finance and VP of Operations at Buy It Installed, Inc. Throughout his career, Mr. Sweeney held several senior level finance positions at Produce Pay and StyleSeat. Other startups that Mr. Sweeney has been involved with include Vidality.com, FriendFinder Networks and BuyDirect. Mr. Sweeney received his BS in Accounting from University of Arkansas - Little Rock and is a CPA (inactive).
VP of Farm Development & Finance
Fabien Villemalard joined Crop One Holdings in 2018 as Director of Farm Development, FP&A and Investor Relations. Prior to Crop One Holdings, Mr. Villemalard held various position in the Americas, Europe and Asia with ING Bank where he raised and structured over a cumulated $15bn in financing for leveraged finance, acquisition finance, project finance and trade finance transactions. He is accustomed to structuring complex transactions across jurisdiction and industries. More recently, he was a founding member of the structured finance agribusiness unit for the bank in Brazil. He was also a co-founder of a successful restaurant based in Brazil and sold in 2015. Mr. Villemalard earned his MA (hon) in Economics & Finance as well as his MSc Information Technology from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh and is a Stanford University Sloan Fellow.
Regional Development Manager
Ming Zhu is the Regional Development Manager at Crop One Holdings and is based in Dubai. Ming joined Crop One Holdings in 2017 as a Strategy Analyst and recently relocated to Dubai to spearhead Crop One’s business development in the MENA and APAC region and serve as the regional leader for Crop One in the Joint Venture with Emirates Flight Catering. Prior to Crop One, Mr. Zhu was a member of the Commercial and Labor & Employment Litigation team at Seyfarth Shaw LLP's Boston office, providing legal analysis and supporting attorneys across the country on high-profile litigation cases. He earned his BA in Economics and Music with High Honors from Wesleyan University. Mr. Zhu also holds a Master's degree in Management from Babson College's F.W. OLIN Graduate School of Business, focused on Entrepreneurship and Business Administration.
